Crime Watch shows nearby incidents with toggleable layers (property, violent, vehicle, missing, 911 calls, shot sensor) on top of free city open data. Now live on the Safe Map with a heatmap-to-pin zoom crossfade and severity-tiered clustering. Donations fund city-by-city open-data integrations and the server costs that keep it free for users.

The challenge

City open-data feeds are wildly inconsistent in schema, license, and refresh cadence. Normalizing into one usable API across jurisdictions is the heavy lift.
